Analyzing Self-Expression and the Freedom of Creativity

I once had an amazing teacher in college–back in the year 2010. This class changed my life—it was called the Art of Creativity. I still remember those days like it was yesterday !!!

In that class, I learned about training my subs-conscious mind to do what is called: Free writing. I want to encourage all of you try doing this, without filtering your words at first, and then come back and analyze it later. I will teach you this secret: the purpose of free writing is to “release control” of your creative work & let the Spirit of God guide your work.

Why is it important to put yourself in this position? Writing and self-expression is done by using one’s mind to create something. But, often times, our own concepts get in the way of releasing something that is valuable and precious in our soul. Once, Rev. In Jin Moon, the leader of Lovin’ Life Ministries, stated that art and music are ways where we can “channel the divine.” Therefore, in order to train ourselves to get rid of all of those layers & obstacles, artists conduct free writing sessions.

But, be careful. You cannot trust everything that comes out of your mind when you’re writing like that. Never take those experiences literally. Simply step away & observe it at a later time.

Filters, True Freedom, & Our Limits

I think that one reason why we encounter obstacles in our lives is because we’re always filtering stuff. I’m guilty of doing this as well. We twist our own message so that it can feel right and sound “appropriate.” But there is value in the innocent self-expression of man. Men and women have basic original traits that cannot be hidden. It is better to avoid being overly perfect and professional when creating things. We ought to allow our spirit to orient our words, thoughts and creative self-expression.

At the same time, I declare that we need to have limits to our freedom. One reason why the United States has found itself in a big mess politically and as a nation is because it tends to vouch for too much freedom and self-expression. Look at the mess Hip Hop, R&B, and rap music have done to our society! I repent for all the hip hop and R&B music I heard during my youth. Most of it is regarded as “creative self-expression.” Yet, those musicians fail to admit that the information they’re producing is criminal, offensive, and immoral.

In America, many people are admittedly infatuated about their constitutional rights. They treat take their freedoms too seriously. But, whether we’re speaking about artwork, or daily life, we ought to remember that freedom indeed has its limits.
